Dear Member
With the season fast approaching and the weather improving the club would like to update you with progress and outline plans for the coming season.
Firstly and probably most importantly the club has a new website, expertly produced at minimal cost by Profile Websites. Please do visit it at : www.disscricketclub.co.uk and if you have any comments please e-mail Paddy: pjqbr@aol.com or Godfrey: godders.cricket@virgin.net A Website is only as good as the information that goes on to it so contributions/ photographs/ articles of interest to club members would be gratefully received. Whilst on the subject of e-mails we would like to open channels of communication through this method. I have all the present committee members but if you would like to be on e-mail circulation please could you forward it to Godfrey on the e-mail above.
We welcome Simon Cooper and Tim Courridge as captains of the 1st and 2nd XI’s respectively, please give them your support.
Junior coaching on Saturday mornings will be starting soon, details will be posted on the website.
The committee have been busy since the AGM, grant applications for a new roller, new site screens and maintenance and security round the clubhouse and ground are all under way.
Match sponsors at £50 a game have been obtained for a number of games so far (see Web for details) If you do know any individual or company who would like to help by sponsoring a match please contact a committee member- we offer an excellent package!
Finally, to get the season under way members are invited to help dust off the cobwebs and prepare the club for the coming season. Please meet at the clubhouse on Saturday April 3rd 10-00am. Regimental Sergeant- Major Moore will be in charge!
Kind Regards,
Diss Cricket Club Committee.

All Change at Diss CC
18 February 2010
Source: Diss Mercury
It
was all change in the captaincy at the Diss Cricket Club annual
general meeting in the pavilion recently.
David Tooke, who did a wonderful job in his three year reign as
skipper, is standing down but will still be very much involved
in all aspects of running the club.
Tooke led from the front winning promotion to the Premier League
in his second season and consolidating the club in sixth place
last season, in most cases against clubs with professional
overseas players and in some cases former Test players.
No one who ever saw it will forget his magnificent unbeaten
century which was instrumental in a superb victory over Vauxhall
Mallards.
Elected in his place is youthful veteran Simon Cooper.
Twenty-year-old Simon is a keen student of the game and is an
old head on young shoulders.
A fine all-rounder he has represented Norfolk at all stages of
youth cricket from under 13 to under 19 in his 11 years with the
club. He is head coach at the cricket club having qualified for
his level one and two coaching badges and is currently on a
course for his level three badge.
Cooper will have the experience of David Tooke to call on and is
sure to do a fine job in his new role.
Second team skipper is Tim Courridge in place of the unavailable
Shaun Merrick. Tim another who will lead from the front had an
excellent season with the bat averaging 63.7 runs with a century
and three fifties in eight innings.
Last year's secretary Bob Sparrow has left the district and old
hand Godfrey Batley takes over. Godfrey brings a wealth of
experience to the role having been involved with Diss cricket
for many years as well as holding a senior post in Norfolk
cricket.
This all adds up to an exciting phase in the development of the
club when the season starts on April 18.

The Third XI player of the season was picked up by the up and coming youngster Jody Sparrow, who's left arm bowling has proved vital in the success of the Third XI, Sparrow also made a number of appearances for the 1st XI this season in cup competitions.
Diss CC are lucky to have such a fine array of young talent on display and every year award two trophies to the younger members of the club. The Phil Govier award this year went to Alex Blakely for his all round fine performances with both bat and ball.
The Darren Rose award this year was received by Jack Bell, who for a number of years has held his own in the 2nd XI, Bell progression continued this year and he was a worthy winner for his contributions throughout 2008.
A new award for 2008 was that of the Young Volunteer of the Year, which the club felt fitting to award to Simon Cooper for his constant commitment and effort that he puts in week in week out to coach, umpire and improve the standard of youth cricket within Diss CC. Simon gives up every saturday morning for the coaching of the various youth teams before playing in the first XI himself, Simon's efforts can only have a positive impact on the club and the fruits of his labour will hopefully be seen with the progression of the young players through the Diss CC ranks in the forthcoming seasons.
The Clubman of the Year, or perhaps now know as Club Persons of the Year was shared between Rosie Beckford and Carol Tooke for the never ending all round commitment to the club, the pair are ever-present at the club performing a number of vital tasks week in week out to keep Diss CC running smoothly, a club like Diss CC would never function without the pair, and the club felt it fitting to show their appreciation by sharing the award this year.
The final presentation of the night was for a special long serving member of Diss CC, a man who has taken on countless roles throughout his time with Diss CC, a man who still stands for his beliefs as a committee member, an active player within the First XI and currently Club Captain. Mike Tooke, a servant to Diss CC for 35 years, was presented a framed shirt signed by none other than Sir Vivian Richards, a West Indian International legend. Mike was clearly touched by the unique award but in typical fashion deflected the attention away from himself to praise the club he has loved for so many years. Tooke received a rapturous round of applause after accepting his award.
