• BLACK SHEEP CRICKET CLUB

  CHARITY CRICKET CLUB SEEKING NEW MEMBERS

   

  A local Cricket Club which has raised over £70,000 over the last 20 years is seeking new members to ensure it's continuing success.

   

  The Black Sheep Cricket Club, made up mainly of ex senior cricketers in Norfolk, play 5 or 6 games a year mostly on Sundays to raise money for local children's charities but have found it increasingly difficult to field sufficiently competitive sides over the past couple of years.

   

  The Club was formed 20 years ago with founder members including Barry and Ian Battelley, Tracey Moore, Phil Mindham and David Barnard, all ex Norfolk players. From the start all matches were played to raise money for local children's charities and to date over £70,000 has been raised.The Black Sheep have also organised a number of cricket tours, first to Ireland and later to Minorca. The sixth tour to Minorca took place last September.

   

  2010 will see fixtures at Mildenhall, Thetford, Dereham, Gt Witchingham, Happisburgh and Horsford but Club Chairman Chris Gillham said that raising strong enough sides was becoming an issue: " We have a lot of members but many of them are getting a bit beyond their 'sell-by' dates ! We are looking for some more experienced players, perhaps coming to the end of their careers, who enjoy playing cricket in a relaxed setting for a bit of fun but with the knowledge that funds raised go to some really worthwhile causes. With more and more league and cup competitions being played on Sundays,the opportunity to play "friendly" cricket has largely disappeared and we can guarantee a good afternoon's cricket with a bit of fun thrown in as well " .

  Do you as a club, have a free Sunday in your calendar, are able to raise around £250 for a child in need or a local children’s charity? If so why not make it fun day and add a Black Sheep fixture to your calendar. Your bar takings will increase, it will be a fun game of cricket, played the way it used to be played.

    Dear Member

    With the season fast approaching and the weather improving the club would like to update you with progress and outline plans for the coming season.

    Firstly and probably most importantly the club has a new website, expertly produced at minimal cost by Profile Websites.

    A Website is only as good as the information that goes on to it so contributions/ photographs/ articles of interest to club members would be gratefully received.
     
    Whilst on the subject of e-mails we would like to open channels of communication through this method. I have all the present committee members but if you would like to be on e-mail circulation please could you forward it to Godfrey on the e-mail above.

     

    We welcome Simon Cooper and Tim Courridge as captains of the 1^st and 2^nd XI’s respectively, please give them your support.

    Junior coaching  on Saturday mornings will be starting soon, details will be posted on the website.

    The committee have been busy since the AGM, grant applications for a new roller, new site screens and maintenance and security round the clubhouse and ground are all under way.

    Match sponsors at £50 a game have been obtained for a number of games so far (see Web for details)  If you do know any individual or company who would like to help by sponsoring a match please contact a committee member- we offer an excellent package!

    Finally, to get the season under way members are invited to help dust off the cobwebs and prepare the club for the coming season.  Please meet at the clubhouse on Saturday April 3^rd 10-00am.  Regimental Sergeant- Major Moore will be in charge!
